Fazakerley Community Federation and Library are the perfect focal point of the community.
With the difficulties that Liverpool has been facing in recent year, the Federation and Library provide invaluable services, from money advice and help with benefit forms, to Tai Chi classes and yoga.
There are regular ‘Money Skills’ sessions run in the library by Rona, manager of the Library and Learning Centre. They are designed to not only help people with budgeting their money, but also raise awareness of lending and loan sharks, and how to prioritise debts. With the rollout of Universal Credit, the help that both the Library and Federation provide with applications is more important than ever.
The ‘Inspiring Fazakerley’ initiative has been a real success story: the project is aimed at young people, to help them gain respect for their community. Gain confidence, and enable them to become more engaged, while also providing assistance with writing their CVs and interview technique.
There is also some exciting news for 2019, involving help with business start-ups and job fairs, only adding another string to the bow of an organisation that already does so much!
This festive season, Fazakerley Community Federation and Library are pulling together to help those that would otherwise go without, to have a proper Christmas. There are toy collections and selection box collections, as well as a ‘Stockings from Santa’ appeal, which aims to give every child the magical experience of waking up with a stocking from Father Christmas on Christmas morning.
The organisation is also conducting its ‘Operation Christmas Eve’. On Christmas Eve, after closing time, Aldi supermarkets give away food that would otherwise go to waste while they are closed for Christmas; Fazakerley Library will be collecting some of these goods and distributing it to those that have already been identified. Please enquire within for more information.
The opening of the new community café in the Federation, ran by Peter, has given the organisation the opportunity to host an even wider variety of activities. There is a weekly lunch and bingo every Monday, which is open to everyone; in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the group will also be doing gift wrapping, which is perfect if you have any oddly-shaped presents that you don’t have a clue how to go about wrapping! The café will be running Christmas dinner service from 17th-20th December, which is just £9 for 3 courses, and tea and coffee to finish off with.
